Actress Naya Rivera, who played the role of high school cheerleader Santana Lopez on Glee, was arrested Saturday night after an altercation with her husband, Ryan Dorsey. According to police, Ryan had injuries on his face and a video of the altercation that “supported Mr. Dorsey’s account of the incident.”
The Kanawha County Police Department issued this initial statement regarding Naya’s arrest:
Late in the night of November 25, 2017, Deputy T. Dubiel of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on 126th Street in Chesapeake, WV for a domestic violence complaint. When he arrived he spoke with Ryan Keith Dorsey who said his wife, Naya Marie Rivera (30 years old of Woodland Hills, CA), struck him in the head and face.
The Deputy saw minor injuries consistent with his statement. Mr. Dorsey showed Deputies a video made during the incident, which also supported Mr. Dorsey’s account of the incident.
Mrs. Rivera was arrested, charged with domestic battery. After arrest booking procedures she was taken to Kanawha County Magistrate Court where she was arraigned and a bond was set. She was then released from custody.
As is always the case in criminal matters, the charge against Mrs. Rivera is merely an accusation. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
After the news broke about Naya’s arrest, local authorities received numerous inquiries from reporters. They later posted Naya’s mug shot photo along with an additional statement:
Attached is a mugshot taken during the arrest of Mrs. Rivera last night.
Several reporters have asked what led to the altercation. While we will not release details of the incident beyond what is in the criminal complaint (charging document), we will say the two were arguing over their child.
The victim’s incidents did not require medical attention.
The 911 call records may be released in the coming days after consultation with Metro 911 Center and the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

According to TMZ, the video of Naya’s appearance before the judge was shot early Sunday morning, and she was later released on $1,000 bond. The site says Naya and Ryan were in West Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with his family, and adds that Ryan’s dad picked her up from jail.
