VIDEO Florida cop fired for singing about killing onstage with death metal band

A Florida police officer has been dismissed from his job with prejudice after getting onstage with a death metal band while in full uniform and singing a song called “Let The Killing Begin.” Officer Andrew Ricks helped long-running death metal band Vital Remains open their Sanford FL show by coming onstage with the band, throwing up the devil horns sign, and singing the song’s only lyric–which, helpfully, is the same as the title of the song–before rocking out for a moment and then joining the rest of the crowd on the venue floor.

“Let The Killing Begin” is the first song on the band’s 2003 album Dechristianize. The title track to that album, which “Let The Killing Begin” intros, contains lyrics such as “Like cancer…our hate consumes the light of elysium / Unstoppable force of demonic supremacy / All destroying…all devouring / Heaven now ravaged…scarred and empty.”

Here’s a clip of the former Florida cop’s performance:

Sanford Police Chief Cecil B. Smith addressed the incident with a forceful statement. Said Smith, “An incident of this nature erodes the thin fibers of trust which already exist between the community and the police and it will not tolerated within the Sanford Police Department.

“It is imperative,” the statement continued, “that we have no misrepresentations of the immediate actions taken by the police department in situations of this nature and that we will continue to provide professional service to all citizens of Sanford.”

Neither Vital Remains nor Andrew Ricks have offered comment.
