Shailene Woodley makes own her medicine, cheese, and toothpaste, forages food, and collects spring water from a mountain
In the past Divergent star Shailene Woodley has hinted that she leads a more “natural” lifestyle and struggles to marry it with the materialistic world of Hollywood. Now she’s revealing just how dedicated she is to living an “alternative” DIY lifestyle.
The young star told FLAUNT magazine about her foraging, living off the land habits. “I think everything about my lifestyle is fairly alternative,” Shailene reveals “I gather my own spring water from mountains every month. I go to a farm to get my food. I make everything from my own toothpaste to my own body lotions and face oils. I could go on for hours. I make my own medicines; I don’t get those from doctors. I make my own cheese and forage wild foods and identify wild plants. It’s an entire lifestyle. It’s appealing to my soul.”
That’s pretty intense, and pretty impressive, but it definitely isn’t a lifestyle for someone with an extremely hectic schedule, or just the regular demands of a modern life. How many people have time to make their own lotions and cheese and forage in the woods? To be fair, Shailene isn’t telling everyone that they should live like that, she’s just revealing that she does.
In a July interview Shailene expressed conflicting feelings about her show The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and again in FLAUNT she iterates that while she’s grateful to have been on the show, she felt like a hypocrite because it didn’t align with her own values.
“I’m extremely grateful for it; it was a fantastic five years of my life, but towards the end, morally, the things that we were preaching on that show weren’t really aligned with my own integrity. So that was a bit hard to show up to work every day knowing that we were going to project all of these themes to thousands — millions — of young adults across the country, when in fact they weren’t what I would like to be sending out.”
