San Francisco’s transforming into Gotham City for BatKid’s Make-a-Wish
On Nov. 15, the city formerly known as San Francisco will be overrun with crime. Thankfully, a 5-year-old leukemia patient named Miles will transform into BatKid and come to the rescue!
The eventful day — which is organized by the Make-a-Wish Foundation — will kick off with a breaking news announcement asking for BatKid’s help in fighting crime. The pint-sized protector of Gotham City will then rescue a damsel in distress, capture The Puzzler and chase down Mr. P before earning his own key to the city.
Although this isn’t the type of wish generally granted by the organization, Jen Wilson from San Francisco’s Make-a-Wish said her team believes it’s a worthy exception.
“This is one that we thought of as a great opportunity for people to share in the power of a wish so they can see how it affects not only the children and their families, but also the other people involved,” Jen told ABC News.
Even though they had big hopes for Miles’ day, Jen said the folks at Make-a-Wish have been impressed by the “extreme” public engagement.
“We’ve gotten people who want to volunteer to participate, actors reaching out asking if they can play a role, photographers and videographers offering their services, people who want to give Miles gifts, makeup artists willing to donate their services, a fire truck that want to come out and show their support,” she said. “It’s quite a range.”
In fact, one of the few people who isn’t planning to participate is BatKid himself! Miles’ parents are in on the surprise, but the little boy’s in the dark.
“He knows he may be getting a costume,” Jen said. “Little does he know…”
