REPORT Teen Mom 2 renewed for seventh season
When the sixth season of Teen Mom 2 wraps up this week, there are sure to be many questions left unanswered: What will happen between Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith? What about Jenelle’s custody battle with mom Barbara Evans? Will Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin manage to stay on good terms? Does Leah Messer get back to being her old self after treatment? Are Chelsea Houska and Cole DeBoer going to get engaged?
Well, good news…several insiders tell The Ashley’s Reality Roundup that Teen Mom 2 is coming back for a seventh season. The insiders said they received word of the renewal a couple of weeks ago and that the show will begin filming within the next two weeks.
Although Chelsea and Leah were reportedly both hesitant to sign on for season six — with Leah even quitting at one point — insiders believe they will return for another round of episodes.
“I highly doubt that they would continue without one of the lead girls,” one source said.
Less clear is whether all of the peripheral stars will participate, especially since Corey Simms reportedly cut ties with MTV this summer because he didn’t “think the money is worth the aggravation anymore.” When that was reported in July, a source said Jeremy Calvert was also keen to quit, but he hadn’t “made any formal moves yet.”
From the standpoint of those at MTV, the decision to renew Teen Mom 2 is hardly surprising: The show regularly tops the Thursday ratings for the key 18-49 demographic and it performs incredibly well among DVR viewers.
Before it returns, we have a new season of Teen Mom OG to look forward to…as well as the long-anticipated new season of 16 and Pregnant, which will reportedly feature four moms throughout the course of the multiple episodes in more of a Teen Mom format.
The season finale of Teen Mom 2 airs on MTV this Thursday at 10/9c.
