Tyra Banks hasn’t shied away from flaunting her true self before — and now she’s doing it with a makeup-free selfie.
“You know how people say #nofilter but you know there’s a freakin’ filter on their pic?” Tyra said on Instagram yesterday. “Or maybe there’s a smidge of retouching going on but they’re lying and saying it’s all raw & real? Well, this morn, I decided to give you a taste of the really real me.”
The America’s Next Top Model host said she was really tempted to “smooth out my dark circles,” but resisted. She explained, “I was like, ‘Naw, Ty. Show ‘em the REAL you.’ So…here I am. Raw.”
As for how she hoped people would react, the 41-year-old model said she actually wanted us to notice her flaws.
“There YOU are…looking at me, studying this picture. Maybe you’re thinking, ‘Whoa, she looks ROUGH,'” she said. “And if you are, great! You deserve to see the REAL me. The REALLY real me. #RawAndReal”
Most of her followers are applauding Tyra’s honest selfie. She won similar praise in 2007 for telling off critics after unflattering paparazzi photos of her in a swimsuit were circulated. Wearing the same swimsuit in front of her talkshow audience, she said she felt offended on behalf of all women.
“[To those who] have something nasty to say about women who are built like me, women who have been picked on, women whose husbands put them down, women at work or girls at school,” she said, in 2007, “I have one thing to say to you: Kiss my fat *ss.”
