PHOTOS Naomi Watts as Princess Diana for film “Caught In Flight”

Actress Naomi Watts is portraying the late Princess Diana in the upcoming film Caught In Flight, a role Watts has said she is “absolutely terrified” to play. Today the first photos surfaced of Naomi Watts as Princess Diana and it looks as though she has nothing to be afraid of!

The scene features Princess Diana arriving at a red carpet event and Watts looks flawless in a slender, full-length silver gown, complete with Princess Di’s signature coiffured blonde hair.

The film focuses on the last two years of Diana’s life, including her relationships with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Kha, played by Lost actor Naveen Andrews, and Dodi Fayed, who Diana was with when she died in a car accident in a Paris tunnel in 1997 at the age of 36.

The role of Princess Diana was reportedly originally supposed to be played by Jessica Chastain, but the offer was made to Watts after Chastain had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

“The film-makers came to me and it’s a good script and it’s very scary and I kind of wanted to say ‘no’ but I couldn’t,” Watts said of the offer.

Co-star Naveen Andrews said of Watts’ casting, “I don’t think anyone else could have done it – there’s no one else.”

Caught In Flight is currently filming in Croatia.
