Leah Remini talks Scientology split: “No one is going to tell me how to think”
Actress Leah Remini has opened up about her recent publicized split with Scientology during an appearance at the 15th annual DesignCare event in Malibu over the weekend.
The former King of Queens actress and The View co-host was straightforward in her answers when asked by People about leaving a church she had previously devoted her life and millions of dollars to.
She said:
“I believe that people should be able to question things. I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, that’s what I’m about. It wouldn’t matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to.”
It was previously reported that Leah’s falling out was due mainly to leader David Miscavige’s rule and her questioning the unknown whereabouts of his wife. Remini came to view his approaches as destructive and tearing apart families. Her recent statements appear to back up these reports. She added:
“We stand united, my family and I, and I think that says a lot about who we are, and what we’re about.”
This separation from the church by all of her family is important because Scientology’s disconnection policy could have made it impossible for them to retain a relationship if some had chosen to stay.
