Katie Couric to leave CBS Evening News

Katie Couric leaves CBS news

Katie Couric became the first woman to anchor a network news broadcast by herself, fulfilling the dreams of 70’s trailblazer Veronica Corningstone, but less than five short years later she will be leaving her post at CBS Evening News according to an anonymous source with the AP.

Her move back in 2006 from her very successful and well received gig as co-anchor with Matt Lauer of The Today Show on NBC was a huge story.  Many questioned if it was the right call while others applauded the bravery Couric showed in trying to take on the top job in her profession.

According to the AP Couric’s next step professionally will be hosting a syndicated talk show and that there are many companies vying for her services and name recognition.  CBS Evening News has been in third, read last, place in the ratings for a while now.

While Couric hasn’t officially made the announcement the report goes on to state that CBS is already vetting their next anchor.
