Is the chlorella natural supplement Victoria’s secret?

If drinking a dark green juice was all that it took to look like a Victoria’s Secret Angel, would you do it? Although it isn’t quite that simple, it seems that a few Angels are fans of a particularly wholesome supplement, chlorella.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, a Victoria’s Secret Angel, recently tweeted the picture above and said the drink which included cucumber, kale, parsley and chlorella, was “a great way to start the day.”

Although the first three ingredients are mainstays in all produce sections, the fourth ingredient is quickly gaining popularity. Chlorella, a natural, single-celled, green algae with tons of nutrients and healthy amino acids, is also popular with Huntington-Whiteley’s fellow model Miranda Kerr.

Some studies indicate that chlorella can safely draw toxic metals away from the gut or intestinal tract. According to WebMD, concentrated chlorella can also be used for preventing cancer, reducing radiation treatment side effects, stimulating the immune system, improving response to flu vaccine, increasing white blood cell counts (especially in people with HIV infection or cancer), preventing colds and slowing the aging process.

However, there are a few negative side effects to consider before loading up on the green stuff. Specifically, it can be contraindicated for pregnant women, people with iodine allergies and those with weak immune systems. Play it safe and consult with your doctor before taking chlorella (or any new supplement).

Chlorella can be purchased in tablet form at health supplement shops and some drugstores.
