Inevitable brutal pageant answer from last night’s Miss USA

Almost every time following a major beauty pageant, at least one unflattering clip makes the rounds from the question and answer segment. This time the dubious distinction goes to Miss Utah, Marissa Powell.

Here’s the topic of income inequality Marissa was asked to provide her insights on by Real Housewives of Atlanta’s NeNe Leakes:

“A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

And here was her answer:

“I think we can relate this back to education, and how we are … continuing to try to strive to [lengthy pause] figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem. And I think, especially the men are … um … seen as the leaders of this, and so we need to try to figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem. Thank you.”

That’s pretty rough but the best of the worst crown still belongs to Miss Teen USA 2007’s Caitlin Upton from South Carolina.

Marissa didn’t take home the top prize as the 2013 Miss USA crown was awarded to Miss Connecticut, Erin Brady.
