House of Versace trailer: Gina Gershon is awesome as Donatella Versace in new Lifetime movie
Gina Gershon looks amazing in her transformation into Donatella Versace for the upcoming Lifetime movie House of Versace. The upcoming guilty pleasure is based on the book House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival, by Deborah Ball, and chronicles how Donatella Versace stepped up to fill her brother Gianni’s shoes in his powerful fashion house after his tragic death in 1997.
51-year-old Gershon told The New York Post that she’s never met Donatella, and that she was transformed in the living icon through “movie magic—a little tape and glue.”
“Surprisingly enough we’ve never met, though we have a lot of mutual friends,” Gershon told The New York Post. “I’ve played people [on-screen] before who are still living and I’ve always met them…but I’m kind of glad I never met Donatella. She’s certainly a larger-than-life character.”
“She goes through an evolution—she physically changes, as we all know, through the years and it was important to be as truthful about that as possible,” Gershon says. “Her physicality is so different from mine; the way she stands and walks and speaks. It was a good exercise in concentration for me in trying to maintain that truthfulness.”
House of Versace debuts Oct. 5 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
