Cops say Oregon mom was filming her baby before hitting 3 teens with her car
Oregon woman Elizabeth Dove faces multiple charges after cops determined she was using her phone to film a video of her baby just before striking three teens in a crosswalk in January. The high-school victims were injured to varying degrees, but are now recovering.
KATU reports investigators found records that show the 23-year-old mom turned around to film a video of her baby son, who was in the backseat, just before the crash.
“[Elizabeth] is holding the phone with her left hand and was making gestures at times with her right hand,” Multnomah County deputy district attorney Annamarie Shoen said in a court document. She added Elizabeth “appears to have had no hands on the steering wheel” when the three teens entered the crosswalk.
Records also show Elizabeth was talking on her phone and sent five text messages in the minutes right before the crash. She faces third-degree assault, recklessly endangering and reckless driving.
