Caption Solutions apologizes for replacing Boston bombing suspect’s name with Zooey Deschanel’s

Zooey Deschanel Boston Bombing Tweet

With eyes all around the country glued to the television during last Friday’s manhunt for the second Boston bombing suspect, a Kansas-based caption company made a pretty epic mistake: Caption Solutions wrote, “Marathon bombing, he is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel.”

Few people believed the star of The New Girl was actually being sought for the terrorist attack. Still, it raised a few eye brows — including those of Deschanel herself.

The error appeared on a news station in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, for which Caption Solutions was providing real-time captions on the breaking news. Although it mostly got a few laughs out of people in the midst of an otherwise tense situation, the president of Caption Solutions reached out to Deschanel to say she “deeply regrets” the mistake.

In Caption Solutions’ defense, this certainly wasn’t the first time there’s been a caption mistake.

Closed Caption Fail

Thankfully, this one has a happy ending as everyone was able to have a good sense of humor and the real Boston bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was apprehended by police.
