Brunswick County inmate captured after jail escape caught on video
Someone get Attorney Dustin Sullivan on the horn!
Dedicated Starcasm readers know all about the busy world of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office thanks to the many, many run-ins with the law associated with Teen Mom 2’s Jenelle Evans and various folks who have circulated in and out of her life.
So when this story, which includes amazing footage of an actual escape from the Brunswick County Jail, came across my news feed I figured it was worth a share.
On Thursday, 22-year-old William Hewett made like Andy Dufresne – thanks to the help of his incarcerated brother and the apparent ineptitude of those employed to keep him under lock and key.
Via WECT:
According to Sheriff John Ingram, William escaped the detention center around 4 p.m. Thursday by posing as his brother, Curtis Hewett. Ingram said the brothers switched armbands while being held in the same cell, and William presented himself as Curtis, who was in jail on a charge of assaulting a female, when he bonded out of jail. Curtis admitted to their plan, according to Ingram. He was charged for helping his brother on Friday. After going through the release process posing as Curtis, William then ran from the detention center into a wooded area in front of the courthouse.
Here’s what that looked like:
Amazing…
WECT reports that Hewitt was taken into custody along with “several family members” early this morning. Hewett was initially jailed after trying to flee from the police in a stolen Honda. He was wanted on various assault charges, as well as first-degree kidnapping, and communicating threats.
