AUDIO Meryl Streep sings “Stay With Me” from Into the Woods
Meryl “The Witch” Streep is already drawing rave reviews and serious Oscar buzz (but then when isn’t she?) for her makeup-laden turn in the forthcoming Into the Woods.
The movie, a long-awaited-for adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, will open on Christmas Day. So there’s not too much more of a wait. But, in anticipation of that hallowed opening, more and more information about the film is starting to find its way online.
For now, the most prominent piece of affiliated action is the audio of Streep’s rendition of “Stay With Me,” which the Witch sings to her stranded daughter Rapunzel. (It’s a complicated fairy tale.)
Has Streep got pipes? Check it:
“Stay With Me” is the first of at least three Streep-based songs in the film version of Into The Woods. Another song, entitled “She’ll Be Back,” is unique to the film, and was written specifically for Streep by Sondheim. The song didn’t make the final cut, but will be on the soundtrack release.
Of course, this is not the first time Meryl “Donna Carmichael” Streep has laid down some serious vocal pipe on screen. She had prominent roles in several songs on the Momma Mia! soundtrack, and took over solo duties for “The Winner Takes It All,” while Pierce “Shaken, not stirred” Brosnan looked on:
The Into The Woods cast features other big-name movie star-types giving song a try. Chris “Star Trek” Pike, Anna Kendrick, Emily Blount Johnny “J-Dep” Depp: all will bare their souls in song.
