When viewers witnessed the on-screen chemistry between Kelly Kapoor and Ryan Howard on The Office, it had many of us wondering if the two actors kept the relationship going off-screen. The dynamic between the characters was hilarious yet sometimes painful to watch as Kelly and Ryan constantly played a game of cat and mouse.
Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak began working together on the set of The Office when they were just 24 years old. The duo remained on the show for all nine seasons. Throughout that time, Mindy and BJ’s real-life bond often reflected the on-screen relationship viewers saw week after week.
Back in January, BJ appeared as a guest on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live. When the question was asked about the status of his relationship with Mindy, BJ was surprisingly open saying, “No one ever knew if we were together including us.”
He goes on to say, “It was hard to define and I think very funny to the people witnessing it and that’s actually what gave them the idea to write Ryan and Kelly that way.”

This sounds like a serious case of art imitating life. But, where do they stand today?
This week, Mindy also visited the Clubhouse as a guest on Watch What Happens Live. Andy asked about Mindy’s love life and this is what she had to say:
Andy: Are you dating anyone?
Mindy: That’s a good question. Yeah, I’m dating.
Andy: You know, I just want you and BJ Novak to get together.
Mindy: I saw the espisode where he was on and I know he talked about that a lot. He’s a real sweet guy.
That’s all, Mindy? No more details?!
Even though she was tight-lipped during the interview with Andy, she was more revealing during a recent interview with Howard Stern. Us Weekly reported on the interview, and Mindy had nothin’ but love for her former co-star, “He’s legitimately one of my best friends. I love him, and I think he’s a great person.”
Thankfully, Mindy isn’t shy about posting personal pics on Instagram. Here’s one she posted just last month of her and BJ hanging out at the beach for his 35th birthday.
Hmmm… they look pretty chumming if you ask me. Apparently their “explosive connection” is strong enough to ensure these best buds don’t stay apart for long.
