Pepsi pulls controversial Kendall Jenner ad

Pepsi has pulled a commercial featuring Kendall Jenner following a massive backlash on social media.

The advertisement borrowed imagery from Black Lives Matter as a modeling Jenner is moved to heal all the social injustice in the world by removing her blond wig and handing a police officer a Pepsi while attractive protestors celebrate with unbridled glee.

Although the beverage giant is no longer sharing or using the spot, it has been preserved forever by the watchful denizens of the internets.

In case you missed it:

The ad depicting gleeful youth holding signs with nondescript slogans like “join the conversation” was promptly eviscerated for its trivializing of the killing of blacks at the hands of police officers.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice King, summed up the gist of those who criticized the ad when she tweeted, “If only daddy would have known about the power of Pepsi.”

Things got so bad that Pepsi decided to issue an apology not only for the spot, but to Kendall Jenner as well:

Jenner removed all of her previous promotions of the 2-minute commercial that she shared to her millions of fans via social media. TMZ reports that Jenner signed on to do the shoot without any knowledge of the marketing vision, which might further explain why Pepsi apologized to her as well.

Do you have any problem with the commercial and if so, do you buy the excuse that Jenner had no idea what the final product would be?
