Why isn’t Max Joseph in Catfish episodes this season?

Max Joseph in Catfish

Catfish fans, I have some good news and some bad news.

Let’s start on a positive note: The fourth season of the MTV show premieres on Feb. 25. Unfortunately, MTV President Susanne Daniels revealed this weekend that fan-favorite Max Joseph will be absent from five episodes. In Max’s place, MTV is teaming Nev Schulman up with some celebrity guest sleuths, including Guy Code‘s Charlamagne Tha God, Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf, Angel Haze, Alex Shaffer and Tyler Oakley.

Although Max will be missed, he does have a good excuse… He’s wrapping up production on his debut feature film, We Are Your Friends!

Starring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowsk, We Are Your Friends follows a young DJ as he works on his debut track. But, as Max told MTV in September, there is a deeper meaning.

“It’s really a story about that transition from being a kid to being an adult in today’s world and what that means,” Max said. “We wanted to make a movie about growing up and have that type of music be the pulse of the story. It’s not just about falling for forbidden love, it’s about mentors and proteges and respect for the artists that have come before you and finding your voice. It’s disengaging the people and things you love that might not be good for you. It’s about a lot.”

Here’s a look at We Are Your Friends, which is due out later this year…

Catfish returns to MTV on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10/9c.
