Most newlyweds spend their honeymoons enjoying their new spouse’s company, recovering from the stress of wedding-planning and, umm, hanging out in the lovebirds’ suite. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian aren’t most people — and he doesn’t want us to forget it.
Speaking in Cannes today, Kanye explained he and his new bride spent the days following their wedding perfecting a picture of their first kiss.
“Let me tell you something about that kiss photo that my girl put up… This was pissing my girl off during the honeymoon, she was exhausted because we worked on the photo so much,” Kanye said, Page Six reports. “We sat there and worked on that photo for, like, four days because the flowers were off-color.”
Fortunately for Kim and Kanye, all the hard work wasn’t for naught. It’s since become the most-liked picture on Instagram, blowing the previous record-holding shot of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez out of the water by a few hundred-thousand likes.
As for why Kim and Kanye were the ones editing the picture, it seems to still be a sore subject.
“Annie Leibovitz pulled out right before the wedding. I think that she was, like, scared of the idea of celebrity,” Kanye said of the famed celebrity photographer. “Because Annie pulled out, I was like, ‘Okay, I still want my wedding photos to look like Annie Leibovitz.'”
He also knew how much was at stake because his new wife is “the No. 1 person on Instagram.” (Justin Bieber’s actually the most-followed person on Instagram.) He added, “And the fact the No. 1 most-liked photo [on Instagram] has a kind of aesthetic was a win for what the mission is, which is raising the palette.”
