Amy Duggar opens up on being born out of wedlock, her parents’ relationship
One amusing thing that happens when a show that’s been on the air for years experiences a big surge of popularity is that a bunch of old details get thrown around as though they’re new revelations. That’s what’s been going on for the past few weeks as numerous publications have “revealed” Amy Duggar was born out of wedlock to Jim Bob Duggar’s sister, Deanna Duggar — even though that’s been a well-established fact for years.
What is significant is that “Cousin Amy” opened up about her personal history for one of the first times this week on Instagram.
“My mom and dad did have me out of wedlock. Just because we are Christians doesn’t make us perfect, it just makes us forgiven. Just because I share the Duggar name doesn’t mean my life is perfect,” said Amy, who went by her birth name, Amy Jordan, until a few years ago. “God knew my uncle would have a hit show and that somehow I would be apart of it. He knew my parents story would be told. How amazing is that?!”
On A Duggar Leaves Home last spring, Amy said her parents, Deanna and Terry Jordan, had “ups and downs” in their relationship. Deanna and Terry ultimately married when Amy was 19. In her new post, Amy said she’s thankful everything played out the way it did.
“Everyone struggles, and sins differently. but Jesus paid it all!! I’m extremely grateful to my mom for choosing to give me life,” Amy said. “I’m sure she was scared, young, ridiculed, and felt ashamed. God’s grace covered it though! She’s beautiful inside and out. I’m also grateful that I have such an awesome relationship with my dad! Seriously he’s the greatest!”
Amy concluded by thanking Jesus for “restoring hearts, relationships and families” and added #prolife.
New episodes of 19 Kids and Counting, which often feature Amy, return to TLC on Feb. 17 at 9/8c.
