Alabama boy missing 13 years uncovers his own mystery in Cleveland
A child that was reported missing 13 years ago was found earlier this week.
In August of 2002, the mother of then 5-year-old Julian Hernandez told authorities in Vestavia Hills, Alabama that her child’s father had promised to take him to preschool. The pair never returned.
Since that time it’s believed that Julian Hernandez, now 18, had been living in Cleveland, Ohio with his father, Bobby Hernandez, under various names. When Julian started applying to colleges he discovered that the social security number his father had given him wasn’t verifiable.
The young man’s school counselor pitched in and eventually Julian found himself on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children database.
The FBI was notified and Bobby Hernandez was arrested and charged with tampering of records. When he is extradited to Alabama, he will face additional charges for the abduction of his own son.
Julian was found safe and unharmed. His mother and extended family were notified of his recovery.
