90 Day Fiance The Other Way spoilers: Corey and Evelin

90 Day Fiance The Other Way Corey and Evelin spoilers

Judging from the 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way preview trailer and TLC’s initial press release, Corey and Evelin look to be carbon copies of their co-stars Karine and Paul Staehle. Evelin is from a small fishing village in Ecuador, and Corey must decide if he is willing to move there permanently. The relocation “will mean accepting a simpler way of life, including poor electricity and no running hot water,” according to their bio. Adding to the difficult decision-making process is the couple’s apparent relationship communication issues, as evidenced by their scenes in the trailer.

I’ve been looking into Corey and Evelin online, and it was quickly apparent that the comparisons to Paul and Karine are…WAY OFF BASE! TLC is DEFINITELY spinning the story a bit here because Corey and Evelin’s relationship is essentially a real world fairy tale that could easily inspire a blockbuster Hollywood feel-good romance starring Scott Eastwood and Jessica Biel.

To illustrate what I’m saying, here is TLC’s official bio for the couple, followed by a revised (and perhaps more accurate) version:

TLC BIO FOR COREY AND EVELIN

Corey first met Evelin while on a trip to her small fishing village. After four years of dating, Corey wants to take things to the next level—which means moving to Ecuador since Evelin doesn’t want to live in the U.S. Already having spent tens of thousands of dollars on Evelin and her family, Corey is fully invested in the relationship. But moving to Evelin’s hometown will mean accepting a simpler way of life, including poor electricity and no running hot water.

REVISED (BUT STILL ACCURATE) BIO

Corey is a Mormon surfer and adventurer who puts his film and broadcasting degree to work by traveling the globe filming cliff jumpers, surfers, and other adventurers like himself. In 2014, Corey was on his way to Hawaii when a plane’s mechanical issues caused an impromptu stay in Peru. During his stay there, he ventured out with friends to Cusco, Machu Pichu, Lima and Mancora before joining a group headed to Colombia.

Corey got off in a popular surfing village along the coast of Ecuador, and that’s where he first saw Evelin as she toted a surfboard along the beach. They bumped into each other at a party later that night, and met up again the following day. The two have been in a relationship — albeit long distance at times — ever since. They share a beautiful Siberian husky and they spend a lot of time surfing and traveling together. Corey has since bought beachside property in hopes of some day building a beach house, and he currently helps Evelin run a cocktail bar on the beach attached to her family’s restaurant.

It really is an amazing story! Obviously, all couples have their issues, and I’m sure Corey and Evelin are no exception. (In the preview trailer it seems as though they are arguing about Evelin not wanting to wear her ring. These two are SUPER laid back, and I get the impression that she just isn’t one to make a big deal about making their relationship “official” or whatever.) However, the notion of this being some random American dude looking to move to a remote poor fishing village in Ecuador to be with his potential wife is definitely spinning things a bit, to say the least.

I will try to fill in the blanks a little with some additional background info on Corey and Evelin, for those of you wanting to know more about them. (Actually, it’s mostly info on Corey.)

COREY AND EVELIN’S STORY

Corey comes from a Mormon family who currently reside in the Pacific Northwest in the state of Washington.

Corey graduated from Washington State University with a degree in communications in 2011. While a student, he won a an award from the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (the EMMYs) for a short-form news piece about surfing. Corey would also create a feature-length film that looks to be a low budget mash up of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

In 2012, Corey started traveling all over the world, including trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, Australia, Thailand, Peru and (of course) Ecuador. As mentioned above, Corey saw Evelin walking along the beach in Monañita carrying a surfboard, and he reportedly slapped his friend on the back and said something along the lines of “That is the woman of my dreams.”

He was at a party later and Evelin approached him to dance. Corey didn’t recognize her and politely refused. As he was returning to his hostel later in the evening, she surprised him and convinced him to return to the party. The two had a great time and agreed to meet on the beach the following morning.

I believe this is a photo of Corey and Evelin together just after they first met:

90 Day Fiance The Other Way Corey and Evelin throwback

It was only when Evelin arrived on the beach with her surfboard that Corey realized it was the same “woman of his dreams” from the day before!

Evelin and Corey were only planning to be in Monañita for a day, but they both wound up staying two weeks.

Evelin is from Engabao, which is roughly 90 miles from Monañita on the Pacific coast. Her parents own a beachside restaurant there, and Evelin manages the tiki cocktail bar attached to it. Corey has reportedly moved to Engabao, and he now runs the cocktail bar with Evelin. (This sounds like the scene just before the closing credits of a romantic action movie, right?)

In July of 2015, Corey revealed that he had purchased three beachfront lots (655 square meters) in Engabao. The location is roughly a mile down the beach from Corey’s favorite surf spot. When asked what he planned to do with the property, Corey wrote: “Maybe one day I’ll build a beach house.”

90 Day Fiance The Other Way Evelin

Obviously, I have no idea how Corey and Evelin’s story will play out on the show, but I seriously hope it is a feel-good story that has the amazing happy ending that it seems like they have had in real life! I have a small #couplecrush on them already, and I’d hate to find out they’re just a big ol ? show. Actually, that would still be fun…
