TLC’s hugely popular international romance series 90-Day Fiance officially returns on September 11 with five new couples who have three months to decide whether or not to follow through with their engagements, or else have one potential partner return alone after his or her K-1 visa expires. In a show famous for controversial and head-shaking pairings, this season looks to be no different. One of the couples most likely to have fans collectively face palming and shaking their damn heads are 25-year-old Jorge from Riverside, California and his 20-year-old Russian fiancee Anfisa from Moscow, Russia.
Jorge explains that he first “met” Anfisa when he ran across her Facebook page. He mentions “falling in love” with her after scrolling through her photos, but I think we all know it was probably another four-letter word starting with “L.” Here are a couple examples of Anfisa’s love-inducing Facebook photos:
OK, I confess I am just a little in love too! 😉
So how did this international courtship and eventual engagement happen? Here is the Jorfisa origin story as told by Jorge and Anfisa:
JORGE: I was on Facebook and I had some acquaintances and some friends of mine that are also Russian…I seen a picture of her and I just fell in love. I didn’t get anything back for, you know, the first ten messages that I sent her. Until finally, I just said something funny and she responded. And then, about four months in, she was going to be studying in Spain, so I decided that was the perfect time to meet her. And, uh, when I pulled up to the place I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Like, this gorgeous supermodel woman just standing in front of me, ready to go on a date with me.
We’ve pretty much traveled all over the world. We’ve gone to Barcelona, Paris, France, Italy. Our last trip was to the Canary Islands. Usually, initial reactions when I show pictures of Anfisa is, uh, “What is a girl like that doing with you?” It makes me feel pretty lucky, pretty fortunate.
ANFISA: I don’t know how he found me, but he was liking my pictures [and] he was messaging me. At first it was annoying and I didn’t pay much attention because, well, I get quite a lot of messages like that. I think he told me that he loved me like, maybe, in a week after we started talking online. But, he was persistent, so I decided to give him a chance.
Here is Jorge and Anfisa’s casting tape, from which a lot of their origin story was taken, followed by some highlight quotes from each:
ANFISA: Jorge gives me all I want. He never says no to me, even if he can’t give me something, like, when I ask instantly. He still tries to do everything possible to give me what I want.
JORGE: I’ve always kind of been scared because I don’t want her to fall into the category of a “California girl.” I pretty much dated women here in California for the longest time, and I always thought that they always have so many similarities within among themselves and everybody [wants to be] a Kardashian, and it just wasn’t working out for me.
ANFISA: I like fashion. I would like to be a model, but not like a runway model because I’m too — a little bit too short for that. Maybe like some advertising. Maybe in some sort of way I want to do what Kardashians do.
Jorge estimates that he has spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $75,000 on Anfisa for travel expenses and luxury gifts. And speaking of luxury gifts, in the premiere episode Jorge is preparing to fly to Russia to meet Anfisa for her trip to the US when she demands that he buy her a Chanel purse valued at nearly $10,000. Jorge opts for a Chanel gift with a slightly lower price tag, and Anfisa is having NONE OF THAT!
Jorge attempts to call Anfisa several times, and while the phone was ringing on one call, Anfisa deleted his phone! “How did she do that?” you might ask, as did one of the 90 Day Fiance producers. Jorge had given Anfisa his Apple password. No problem, Jorge can just send her an email and clear all of this up right quick, right? Nope, he gave her his email passwords too, and she changed them.
In a preview clip for episode two, which will air after the premiere on September 11, Anfisa finally texts Jorge back and the two have a conversation. It does not go well for Jorge:
So do Jorge and Anfisa get married or not? I did some extensive research and was unable to answer that question definitively one way or another. Although Anfisa does still have an active Facebook account and a Twitter account under her name (the Twitter account that was linked from the legit Facebook account has since been deleted), she has pretty much scrubbed the internet of anything that might reveal whether or not she and Jorge got married — or even if she eventually did make the trip to the US.
However, there are some entries made on Facebook by Anfisa that still exist in cached search results which do seem to indicate she made it to Los Angeles. In one photo that was posted on a Russian page for “Melrose Avenue,” Anfisa is seen in a mirror selfie trying on a dress before what looks to be a night out along with the caption “decisions decisions.” That photo was posted on July 2.
Meanwhile, Jorge has changed his name on Facebook and there is not much else about him online AT ALL. So, I guess we will all have to just tune in and see what happens! 90 Day Fiance Season 4 premieres Monday, September 11 at 9/8c on TLC. We will end this post with Anfisa’s end, albeit censored a bit. Just click on the photo for the full Anfisadonk — but be forewarned, you might fall in love and find yourself $75,000 in the hole within a few short months! 😉
