As violence continues in Ferguson, Missouri–the site of riots after unarmed black teen Michael Brown was killed by a police officer–another innocent life has been claimed.
St. Louis station KMOV reports 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden was doing homework in bed around 9:30 on Tuesday night when someone opened fire into the house. Jamyla was struck and killed by a bullet. Her mother was shot in the leg.
“I never in a million years thought that I’d be laying my daughter to rest,” Jamyla’s father said. He asked anyone with information to contact authorities, who don’t have a suspect at this point. “Don’t just do it for me. Do it for her. Do it for a 9-year-old child that didn’t even get to see the rest of the world.”
With so much unrest, local pastor Willis Johnson said people on both sides need to reevaluate their actions.
Said Johnson, “This epidemic of lost life under false pretense and of no real significant reason has to change.”
