Here’s a new scale to calibrate how much you regret something: One is forgetting to brush your teeth at night and 10 is cheating on Beyonce. Lyndall Locke has to walk around with Level 10 regret every day.
Rather than tell his sob story to the guy sitting next to him at some shady Houston bar (which he probably does every other night of the week), Lyndall spoke to Britain’s The Sun about his teenage romance with Beyonce.
“Who cheats on a woman as beautiful as Beyonce? Well, I am that man and it’s something that’ll always haunt me,” Lyndall said last week.
According to Lyndall, he was introduced to his former sweetheart by Kelly Rowland at church in 1993. He said they dated through high school, which included such memorable events as going to prom together and sharing their first kiss. That was as far as they went in terms of intimacy, though. Lyndall said Bey wanted to stay a virgin until marriage and he respected that — if you don’t count the fact he just opted to sleep with other women.
“The bigger star she became, the more I didn’t think I was good enough,” he told The Sun. “One night, when she was out of town, I went to a bar with friends and ended up sleeping with another woman. Over the course of a few years I cheated on her about five times, but I never told her until after we broke up.”
A few years ago, Beyonce seemed to corroborate Lyndall’s story.
“When I was 12, 13 I had my first boyfriend, and he was my boyfriend till I was 17,” she told Britain’s The Telegraph in 2008. “At that age, that was a long time. I’ve always been very loyal and a little more mature. Though I was too young for it to really be a boyfriend — we didn’t live together, we didn’t, you know… That was my only experience with a guy, and since then I’ve only had one other boyfriend in my life — Jay.”
Meanwhile, ol’ Lyndall thinks he would have stood another chance with Beyonce if Jay hadn’t come into the picture.
“Once she began dating Jay Z I knew we were doomed and I could never win her back. But I know that no matter what, she will always love me,” he said. “I will always wonder ‘What if?’ and, given all we shared, I’m sure a part of her must feel the same way.”
