Why did Michael Douglas lie about cancer?
Michael Douglas previously blamed his throat cancer on HPV he got through oral sex, but he’s now revealing he had a completely different kind of cancer.
Right now his marriage to Catherine Zeta-Jones is in a delicate state, and their separation has been partly blamed on some comments he made to the press about getting cancer from an STD. The undercurrents of the statement was that he got cancer from his wife. When asked about if he regretted smoking and drinking and other lifestyle choices by The Guardian, he replied “No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus,” Douglas told the paper. “I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer.”
Now Michael is saying that he actually had tongue cancer, but he couldn’t tell the public that because he was promoting Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and tongue cancer surgical treatments can be incredibly disfiguring.
In an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on a Male Cancer Awareness Week special edition of UK TV’s This Morning he said, “This was right before I had a big tour for ‘Wall Street,’ so we kind of said, ‘There’s no way we can cancel the tour and say we don’t feel well.’ I said, ‘You’ve just got to come out and just tell them I’ve got cancer and that’s it.'”
Tongue cancer may also be associated with HPV, but the chances of getting any type of mouth cancer are increased by smoking and drinking.
