What is The Splat? It seems Nickelodeon is launching a channel devoted to ’90s shows
Miss the days when you came home from school and settled down at the TV to get some life lessons from a group of babies? What about the afternoons watching the misadventures of a strangely connected cat and dog? And who among us doesn’t feel some serious nostalgia when thinking of green slime?
Good news, fans of Nickelodeon circa the 1990s: It seems the network is creating a new channel, The Splat, devoted to the popular programs from the end of the 20th century!
So far, Nickelodeon and the new social media pages for The Splat are being very cryptic about the project… They’ve just said “#TheSplatIsComing” and promoted it at last weekend’s ’90s Fest in Brooklyn.
Although many people are hoping The Splat is a new channel, it could also be some kind of streaming channel or extended programming block. In fact, The Splat’s Twitter feed was previously TeenNick’s “The ’90s Are All That” account, which promoted the classic shows that aired between midnight and 4 a.m.
One way or the other, it’s clear the shows are coming back. Even Nickelodeon’s president of content and development, Russell Hicks, recently told Variety, “We are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they’ve told us multiple times they want to have brought back.”
