Warrant lead singer Jani Lane was found dead in a hotel at 47 on August 11, 2011

Former Warrant lead singer Jani Lane was found dead at the Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, California earlier this evening. Officials have released no further information at this time.

Jani Lane was 47 years old and had a history of alcohol abuse. According to TMZ, “Lane had a history of alcohol-related issues — he was ordered to serve 120 days in jail after he was arrested for DUI in 2010 … his second DUI in two years.”

Lane was the lead singer for the group and penned their biggest hit, “Cherry Pie,” before leaving to pursue a solo career.

UPDATE – TMZ is now reporting that “investigators found a half-empty bottle of vodka and prescription medication in the hotel room where Jani Lane died yesterday.” The singer was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for later today (Friday). For now his death is reportedly “being treated as an accidental overdose or a possible death from natural causes.”
