A week ago, Jackie Chan’s daughter Etta Ng posted a distressing video to YouTube. The 18-year-old appeared on screen with her girlfriend, 30-year-old Instagram star Andi Autumn, to tell the world that the two of them have been homeless for a month. The reason? Homophobic parents and LGBT groups who, according to the women, don’t care. The couple also said they don’t want to go to a shelter because they would be split up.
“Hi, I’m Jackie Chan’s daughter, Etta, and this is my girlfriend, Andi,” Etta says at the start of the video, published April 24, 2018. “We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We’ve pretty much slept under a bridge and other things.”
“We’ve gone to the police, the hospital, food banks, LGBT community, shelters, and all of them just don’t give a s**t,” she claimed. “So that’s why we’re making this video. We don’t know what to do at this point.”
The couple, who announced their relationship in October 2017, are currently staying with Autumn’s friend in Canada. But their time in the country is running out. Etta says her attempts to reach out to people she knows have failed, which is why she’s appealing to strangers online. “No one on my Facebook is going to listen to me,” she says, while reading from a paper. “And now no one is responding to my phone calls.”
Andi Autumn is originally from Canada, but had been living in Hong Kong for about a decade with a boyfriend from whom she split in 2017. Shortly after, she started dating Etta.
Meanwhile, Etta’s mom, Elaine Ng, was a Chinese beauty queen who had a brief affair with the international action star in 1999. In February, Elaine filed a missing person’s report in Hong Kong when Etta quit her job and the two lost contact.
In 2015 police arrested Elaine for abusing Etta. At the time, Etta said her mother often drank two bottles of wine a day, and sometimes become violent when she was drunk. “It is alright that she has hit me,” Etta, then fifteen years old, said at the time. “I just need someone to help her as I cannot do so myself.”
Also in 2015, Etta gave an interview in which she said she was far from forgiving her famous father for not being there for her. “[Jackie Chan] never existed in my life. I will never regard him as a father,” Etta said.
Indeed, Jackie Chan, now 64, has had been estranged from Etta for pretty much her entire life. Chan — who also has a 35-year-old son named Jaycee Chan Joming — has yet to comment publicly on his daughter’s situation.
However, soon after Chan and Elaine broke up, he did defend himself for leaving her, saying he “only committed a fault that every single man in the world commits.”
“We just want to let people know what’s going on,” Etta says at the end of her YouTube plea. “Because at this point it seems ridiculous that no one can help. I don’t understand.”
“It’s really confusing,” Andi adds. “So please repost and share this because we don’t know what’s going on.”
