David Kime's funeral procession goes through a Burger King drive-thru

David Kime Jr. loved Burger King — and we do mean LOVED. So when the 88-year-old retired World War II vet passed away, his family and friends decided to let David “have it your way” by taking the entire funeral procession through the drive-thru at his local Burger King.

As the procession slowly made its way through the drive thru, each mourner received a sandwich for the road. Burger King manager Margaret Hess says they had 40 sandwiches prepared for the event. “It’s nice to know he was a loyal customer up until the end — the very end,” she said of Kime.

David, of course, got his own burger (a Whopper Jr.), which was placed on top of his casket and was buried with him.

David Kime’s daughter Linda Phiel wanted to be sure people understood the idea was no joke, but rather a joyful way to honor her father and the things that brought him happiness. “He lived a wonderful life and on his own terms,” Linda says, adding that getting lettuce on his hamburger was what Kime considered to be healthy eating.

Here is a video of David Kime Jr.’s funeral procession through the Burger King drive-thru from a local news station:
