VIDEO: Bruce Springsteen introduces ‘The Promise’ documentary at TIFF

Bruce Springsteen sent the Toronto International Film Festival into a frenzy yesterday with his appearance to premiere a documentary on the making of his classic rock record Darkness on the Edge of Town.  The doc is called The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town and it is just part of a 3cd 3dvd upcoming release that will be a mind blower for hard-core Springsteen fans.

RedCarpetDiary was on hand and logged the following video report on the Boss’s Canada trip including his introduction of the film and personal thanks for those involved.  Check it out and after words I’ll include a full transcript of Bruce’s comments.  Please forgive the young narrators of the video when they refer to the album as Darkness “AT” the Edge of Town or don’t actually.  That may be an unforgivable sin!

Bruce Springsteen’s introductory remarks for the premiere of The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town:

“I’d like to thank Jon (Landau) my partner of 35 years and Thom Zimny who put this picture together and would send it down to me and I would occasionally nod, he just did a lovely job.  I would also like to thank Barry Rebo.  I’m not sure if he is in the house tonight but he was the fellow that back in 1977 would jam into the studio with this little hand held camera and manage to shoot this footage of us when we were working.  Barry I appreciate that.

I would also like to thank the folks that have been a part of our audience all these years.  This film is the beginning of us, is one of the beginnings of a conversation I tried to shape with my audience over these years.  It’s the beginning of us working hard to achieve a certain philosophy about the kind of band we wanted to be and the kind of service we wanted to provide you and the place we wanted to play in your lives.  I want to thank you for having this conversation with me over all these years.  It’s been one of the great joys of my life.  Thank you very much and enjoy the picture.”

And here are few additional photos of Springsteen at the podium.  If you’re like me and are chomping at the bits to get your hands on The Promise the release date is November 16th but you can pre-order the nuclear Darkness bomb via Amazon here.
