VIDEO Ben Affleck and Bill Maher debate over Islam, and it turns ugly

52nd New York Film Festival - 'Gone Girl' - World premiere

You’d think Ben Affleck (“Baff”) would be on top of the world right now.

He’s got the number one movie in the country; he’s got a great family surrounding him and helping him make well-informed career decisions; he gets to be Batman soon, which is, objectively, pretty great.

The star of Mallrats and Phantoms couldn’t take it easy, though, when Bill Maher and other panelists on a chat show got offensive about Islam.

Baff was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher over the weekend, when host Maher (“B-Mah”) made some generalizations about the Islamic faith to which Ben took offense.

From there, the conversation only intensified, with B-Mah comparing Islam to the mafia (“[They] will f****** kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture, or write the wrong book.”) and Baff calling Maher a “racist.”

Dag, yo. Them’s some serious fightin’ words. It’s surprising they were able to bring it back around at all, let alone agree to disagree.

Interesting side note: also on the panel? Michael Steele, who used to be in the public eye.

Gone Girl is in theaters now. Real Time airs Friday nights on HBO.
