UNEXPECTED Max’s dad Todd Schenzel was arrested for theft, forgery, and more
We previously reported on the legal difficulties of Unexpected dad Max Schenzel after he was arrested for allegedly stealing money and credit cards from his friend’s sleeping 77-year-old grandmother in June, but Max isn’t the only on in his family who has had run-ins with the law.
Max’s 53-year-old dad Todd Schenzel has spent a good deal of time in court and behind bars for a series of charges that include auto theft, forgery, and issuing bad checks. According to jail records, the longest stint Todd did behind bars was roughly 18 months from late 2008 to early 2010 after being found guilty of two theft charges (including one for auto theft) and a forgery charge.
In addition to the prison sentence, Todd was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,225.00.
More recently, Todd was charged with being a contractor without a license, but court records indicate that he later entered a plea of guilty to a lesser contractor advertising violation charge, which essentially means that he was advertising himself as able to perform a service for hire that he did not have a license for. That guilty plea was in 2014.
As you can probably tell from the kinds of charges against Todd, most of his issues seem to stem from money problems. Those problems are further evidenced by court records indicating he has been evicted — including an eviction action hearing in 2017 asking for more than $4,500.
There is also indication that Todd has filed for bankruptcy at least once, including a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in 2015.
I do want to emphasize that I couldn’t find any indication of Todd being charged with any sort of violent crime or anything drug related. He and some of his exes have been named in order of protection through the years (going both ways), but there is no record that I could find of any sort of domestic violence in those cases.
Due in part to Todd’s legal issues (which I became aware of after first looking into Max), I had my doubts that we would ever see Max’s dad on the show. But, after much teasing and several cancellations, viewers (and Chloe’s parents) finally got to meet Todd while TLC cameras were rolling for a recently aired episode.
In a teaser for the next episode, Max mentions that Chloe’s parents found out something that they are holding over his head. I assume that is Max’s arrest, but it could also be something from Todd’s past — or just Todd’s past in general. I guess we will all know when the new episode of Unexpected airs tonight at 10/9c on TLC!
