Teen ‘wasn’t thinking’ when he set himself on fire for ‘fire challenge’

Fire-Challenge

A teenager from Lexington, Kentucky is recovering after he attempted to set himself on fire as part of a video dare game called the “fire challenge.”

Via Know Your Meme:

Fire Challenge is a dare game in which the participant voluntarily sets oneself on fire for a short period of time by applying flammable liquids or igniting combustible parts of one’s body and filming the outcome.

The 15-year-old, who wished to remain unnamed, told local news affiliate WKYT, “I just poured alcohol on it, and lit it, and it just automatically went and burst.”

Firefighters came to the scene, treated the kid for his self-inflicted burns and then took him to a nearby hospital.

The young man pointed out that the videos seen online do not follow through in showing what happens to a person after he or she sets themselves on fire. Lexington Fire Department Captain Chris Harrod said, “What they don’t show at the end of the videos is the consequences of doing this, getting second and third degree burns.”

When asked as to what he thought may happen when he poured alcohol over his own body and then set the flammable liquid on fire he answered, “I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking really.”
