SISTER WIVES Mariah Brown comes out as lesbian

Sister Wives Mariah Brown comes out as gay on the show

This week’s Sister Wives revealed a major Brown family bombshell. While most of the episode revolved around on the fallout from Meri’s catfish scandal, the network kept showing teaser clips of Meri’s daughter Mariah sharing a major announcement.

My interest was piqued, but in true reality TV form, I was sure Mariah’s news was nothing more than a simple update about her life and a ploy to keep me watching until the very end of the show.

Boy, was I wrong!

The last scene begins with Mariah entering Christine’s house asking to gather the adults together. Christine prods her for more information while Mariah grins ear-to-ear vowing not to spill the beans until everyone is together.

The adults meet in Christine’s “library”, the same room in which Maddie and Mykelti announced they were getting married. They begin to question if Mariah’s announcement has to do with her college career. Is she transferring to UNLV? Did she get accepted to medical school?

Kody and his wives grow more and more anxious as Mariah fights to keep her composure. She’s obviously excited yet nervous as she can be seen checking her pulse.

“Okay, um…” she begins, “I’m gay!”

The adults look stunned, many with their jaws hanging on the ground.

“Are you serious?” Robyn asks. Christine echoes her comments and says, “Are you really?”

Mariah answers with a simple, “Yeah.”

During the preview for next week’s episode, Mariah, Robyn, and Kody sit down to discuss Mariah’s big news.

They agree they were blindsided by the announcement. Meri begins to cry while she questions Robyn’s support and excitement. Kody clarifies, “We’re not happy Mariah’s gay; we’re happy Mariah knows herself.”

The preview clip continues with Meri admitting, “I thought I knew my daughter. I didn’t.”

Mariah then sits down with her mom for a contentious discussion in which she warns her Meri, “I just really need you to stop pushing me because I’m good here.”

After the episode aired, Mariah took to Twitter to share her appreciation for the outpouring of support she’s received.

Despite their strained relationship involving the catfish and Mariah’s brazen coming out, the mother daughter duo look to be on good terms.

In the past, the Brown’s have stepped forward in support of gay marriage and even used marriage equality platforms as a way to combat critics of their lifestyle.

Don’t forget to catch next week’s episode; it’s sure to be a good one!

Sister Wives airs on Sundays at 8/7c on TLC.
