Sandra Lee recovering from double mastectomy, may need more surgery
Food Network star Sandra Lee is in good spirits and recovering quietly after her recent double mastectomy. It’s possible, though, that she will need more surgery.
Lee had her double mastectomy this past May, shortly after revealing her breast cancer diagnosis. She kept her fans updated with a bevy of short hospital videos and photos, and, initially, her recovery seemed to be going well.
In fact, a fatigued but optimistic Lee updated her Facebook page with the above photo just one week ago. Beneath it, she wrote the following caption:
Another medical Monday.
Another “You’re not out of the woods yet.”
Another breath.
Another internal patience check.
Another self-reminder to just keep it together a little longer and it will all be okay.
And another blessing from God that it’s almost over – please God let it almost be over.
However, the New York Daily News has reported that Lee is not healing “the way she is supposed to,” and may require additional surgery in order to deal with “complications” from the first surgery.
“She’s not out of the woods,” a source close to Sandra Lee told the newspaper, “[and] she was so fearful about that.”
Lee’s surgeon, at least, says that “it’s against the odds” to heal without the second surgery, but that it’s also possible Lee’s body will heal on its own.
And in happier news, Lee celebrated her 49th birthday this past Friday, along with boyfriend Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo took Lee to the Bedford Post Inn, owned by Richard Gere, for a quiet, elegant meal. Fellow diners said that Lee looked great and was in fine spirits.
Lee and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo have been dating since last autumn.
