PHOTOS Kailyn Lowry modeling paper wedding dress by Kate Robertson
Devoted Teen Mom 2 fans will probably recall when a photo of Kailyn Lowry wearing a paper wedding dress in a magazine photo spread surfaced a couple years ago. There was quite the hubbub over the origin of the photo, but it was later revealed that the spread was from the December, 2012 issue of Essere magazine and the photos were taken by Brazen Photo’s Kate Robertson, who has photographed Kail and Javi on numerous occasions, including their wedding and famous “family day at the beach” shots. (Kate used to have the last name Hedrick.)
On Friday Kate took to her blog to share some additional photos of Kailyn in the dress, and to tell the amazing story of how it was made. Kate reveals that the dress took “a week’s worth of work, five bottles of Elmer’s Glue, six glue sticks, seven rolls of packing tape, two rolls of duct tape, four books, and more paper cuts than most get in a lifetime.”
Kate used a single wedding dress pattern, but had to separate it into a top and bottom to make it work. (Tim Gunn would be proud! Actually, this kind of seems like a Project Runway challenge, right?) “Wrapping paper and packing tape were used as the under layer,” Kate says, “and duct-tape used for areas that needed extra support.” Kate tells us that when finished, the skirt had so much tape that it stood up by itself.
Kate couldn’t recall which books were used to make the dress, but she says she used “some very risqué books” and “had to watch what [she] photographed.”
We actually did a little research using the hi-res photo shared by Kate, and we determined at least one of the books used — a Gone With the Wind sequel written by Alexandra Ripley titled Scarlett. How appropriate is that?!? Not exactly a dress made out of curtains, but frankly my dear, it’s pretty damn close! 😉
We asked Kate if she still had the dress “lying around the shop,” but she tells us it has since been repurposed — the top was used in a high school senior portrait shoot, and she had the skirt up until she moved in February. “It was holding up great though,” she says.
I’ve got a lot of favorite Kailyn Lowry-Marroquin photos, but I think the one at the top of this post may be my favorite favorite! Well, I suppose I should qualify that by saying it is my favorite favorite Kailyn photo with just Kailyn, otherwise I’d still have to go with the pregnant Kailyn and Isaac and Javi “kisses all around” photo from the beach shoot!
Here are some hi-res and uncropped versions of the photos aove, just click to enlarge. To see detailed photos of the making of the dress, be sure to hop over to BrazenPhoto.com.
