To promote his new reality series Life As I Know It Poison frontman Bret Michaels disgraces the cover of the October 2, 2010 issue of Billboard magazine wearing nothing more than his patented handkerchief headband and jewelry.

The reality show alum from such successful shows as Rock of Love and last season’s Celebrity Apprentice (which he won) is an example of Billboard’s number 33 best way to get your music seen and heard: “Star in a top-rated reality TV show.” To say nothing of the unpleasantness of having Billboard magazine looking more like Billboy magazine, is this really a lesson we want to teach young aspiring musicians? And how has appearing in a “top-rated reality TV show” gotten anyone to listen to any Bret Michaels music they haven’t already heard? I digress…

Brett’s new VH1 show premieres on Monday, October 18 at 10/9c and he describes the premise to Billboard: “It’s an all-access backstage pass into my everyday life, about finding balance between my passion for my family, my relationship with [girlfriend] Kristi [Gibson] and being on the road.”

When asked about some of the criticisms he receives from critics and the media, Brett says, “Writers always use the phrase ‘aging rocker,’ and I’m like, “What other option do I have?” You’re either aging or you’re dead. So I’m embracing it.”

I thought my favorite was the joystick but now I think I’m leaning towards the versatility of the badass double entendre of “Shaft” and “Roundtree.”
