Nancy Kerrigan’s brother murdered their father?

UPDATE: May 25, 2011: Mark Kerrigan has been acquitted in the death of his father, however, the jury convicted him of assault and battery in the confrontation with his father in 2010. He faces 2 1/2 years in jail.

UPDATE 4/7/10: Mark Kerrigan has been charged with the manslaughter of his father, Daniel Kerrigan

UPDATE 2/9/10: The death of Daniel Kerrigan has been ruled a homicide by the medical examiner, meaning Nancy’s brother Mark Kerrigan may face murder charges. They ruled that the damage done to Daniel’s neck caused his heart attack. The Kerrigan family is currently contesting this ruling.

Mark was arrested and charged with assault and battery on an elder with serious bodily injuries. More charges may be filed later. 45-year-old Mark Kerrigan was intoxicated when cops arrested him, and “had to be subdued with pepper spray.”

According to a five-page police report, the two men were yelling and pushing each other. At one point the younger Kerrigan put his hands on his father’s throat. He thought Daniel Kerrigan was “faking it” when he fell to the ground. The fight happened in the kitchen, where there were bloodstains, but Daniel’s body was found in the basement.

40-year-old Nancy Kerrigan lives just a few minutes away from the house where the fight occurred, which was also her childhood home. She’s currently married with three children. Her father’s funeral will take place on Thursday.

Daniel Kerrigan’s wife, Brenda, told the Boston Herald that she believed her husband suffered a heart attack, but police have yet to officially confirm this.

Nancy Kerrigan won a bronze medal in the 1992 winter Olympics, and a silver medal in the 1994 Olympics after being attacked by opponent Tonya Harding which created a scandal that enthralled the world.

Four years after her silver medal win and attack, Kerrigan’s father, the late Daniel Kerrigan won $1 million in the lottery.
