Moniece Slaughter health scare: LHHH star hospitalized after multiple strokes

An unexpected Moniece Slaughter health scare has led the Love & Hip Hop Hollywood star to take to social media with a powerful anti-smoking message. It turns out that Moniece was recently hospitalized–several times–following a series of strokes that she suffered while trying to quit smoking. Moniece says she was motivated to give up her habit following the death of fellow VH1 star Angela “Big Ang” Raiola, a lifelong smoker, who had aggressive stage 4 brain and lung cancer at the end of her life.

But giving up the habit hasn’t been easy. Here’s the Moniece Slaughter health scare update from Moniece herself:

When Kam was 4wks old he got RSV. For 5 weeks he was in severe discomfort and his little body worked overtime for oxygen. it was very scary. So we slept sitting up (he was on my chest in the baby b’jorn). I set my alarm and every 4hrs I put this little mask on his face and it was sad to me. He hated it. I felt so bad. Now here I am wearing his same little mask at home on the breathing machine. What’s crazy about this, is that the pain I feel In my chest was self inflicted by choosing to smoke cigarettes. I spent all week in and out of the hospital. Today my doctor told me I had two mini strokes, my right lung was inflamed, but clear, my blood work was A1 (no cancerous cells etc) no abnormalities growing in my throat or lungs. Perfect heart. God blessed me and I’m still on my very hard very painful journey to quit. She said my lungs are getting rid of the damaged bronchi and and reproducing new bronchi. There’s nothing they can do except to try to make me comfortable while my body goes through this process. I was told total restoration of my lungs would be about 3 yrs! CRAZY! #iquitforkam

And it was only yesterday that the reality TV star offered a sort of prequel to the Moniece Slaughter health scare, with a separate, equally impassioned plea for all of her followers to give up cigarettes for good:

Pretty Please. Let’s help each other quit for good! After the loss of @biggangvh1 I’ve taken the initiative to get checked out and to quit smoking. Over the past week my respiratory health has drastically changed and it hurts like a bitch. So let’s quit together.
