A 44-year-old Chinese man went to the doctor complaining of blood in his urine and pain in his stomach, only to be told by the medical practitioners that he is, in fact, a woman, and is menstruating.
The man visited the First People’s Hospital of Yongkang, Zhejiang Province, where a CT scan revealed both the benign abdominal tumor that had been causing his discomfort, and the presence of ovaries and a uterus.
Said a doctor surnamed Zhao, “He had short hair and was dressed in man’s clothes. We did not realize he was a female at first.”
Doctors further noted Chen’s lack of an Adam’s apple, his lack of facial hair, and his “deformed” penis.
The patient, surnamed Chen, has a condition called adrenogenital syndrome. The disorder affects the development of the genitals, and of other sex characteristics.
A chromosome test further confirmed Chen’s gender, and that the blood in his urine came from menstruation.
According to Chen himself, he has been married for ten years. He said he has not had trouble performing sexually.
