PHOTOS Jared Leto, diplomat? Actor visits Ukraine following emotional Oscar nod

Jared Leto - Kiev Ukraine

During his Academy Award acceptance speech, Jared Leto told viewers in Ukraine and Venezuela he stands by them during their times of political strife: “I want to say we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen and live the impossible, we are thinking of you tonight.”

But, the Oscar winner doesn’t just talk the talk.

He visited riot-ridden Kiev to perform with 30 Seconds to Mars on Wednesday. He was greeted by loud cheers at the concert, where he told the audience he admires their willingness to stand up to oppressive forces.

“You guys are in the midst of something really beautiful. And, it may be difficult, but there’s no price too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. And, I want to let you know, I understand other bands have canceled their shows. But there is no f**king way 30 Seconds to Mars wasn’t going to be here.”

Today, the high-profile actor took his personal diplomatic mission a step father by touring Kiev and paying tribute to dozens killed during classes with police.

With ongoing riots, international officials warn Kiev isn’t a safe place for visitors. By going forward with their scheduled concert and tour of the city, Jared and his 30 Seconds to Mars bandmates are effectively saying they are unafraid of standing by Ukranian citizens.
