23-year-old Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale covers Cosmopolitan’s September 2012 issue, and is speaking out for the first time about issues with an eating disorder, and her body image.
She plays gorgeous confident teenager Aria (who, along with basically living in a horror murder mystery, is also involved with an illegal love affair with her former high school teacher,) but she’s had days where she didn’t feel comfortable with herself, so she would starve herself.
“I’ve never really talked about this, but I would go days without eating.
Or maybe I’d have some fruit and then go to the gym for three hours. I knew I had a problem … It was a gradual process but I changed myself.”
This is such a common issue with young actresses, and young girls in general, but being in the public eye, and feeling like appearing a certain way is your job, and part of your responsibility can really pile on the pressure.
Hale also told the mag about meeting boyfriend Chris Zylka (who’s been cast in the second Season of American Horror Story🙂
“I was like, ‘Holy crap you’re gorgeous!’ It was like no one else was there. We couldn’t stop talking.”
Last month was a big month for Lucy. She turned 23 (June 14) and picked up a Teen’s Choice Award.
