In the days leading up to Kylie Jenner’s big 18th birthday throwdown, it seems that her relationship with 25-year-old rapper Tyga might have hit the rocks. Indeed, it’s been a strange few weeks for the couple, who were the subject of marriage rumors as recently as a few days ago.
When Kylie stepped out wearing a diamond ring on her ring finger last week, speculation ran wild regarding her marital status. Kylie Jenner has long hinted at her desire to get married–to Tyga–on or around her 18th birthday; there have been rumors that the couple is already secretly engaged (or got secretly married) ever since their picnic-based reconciliation this past spring.
But Kylie dismissed marriage rumors with a gentle wave from her Twitter feed:

She then stepped out wearing the exact same ring that started all the gossiping, as if to prove that it was never more than an accessory–albeit an expensive, prominent one.
At the same time, Kylie’s been planning her upcoming birthday–and it’s a party she’s getting paid $200,000 to show up for. The Canadian shindig–Kylie Jenner, at 18, will be able to drink alcohol legally in Montreal–is going down on August 16th. Kylie’s been working on the extensive guest list for the party, but there’s one glaring omission: Tyga himself. According to a source working with the club’s promoters, “Kylie can bring guests, but so far it doesn’t seem [Tyga] will be with her….Tyga’s name isn’t even on the list.”
The source did also say that none of Kylie Jenner’s family will be with her, and added that one possible reason is because each of the Jenners and Kardashians tend to come with their own appearance fees where high-profile parties, like Kylie Jenner’s 18th birthday, are concerned. Tyga has an appearance fee, too, though it is considerably lower than anyone associated with the Kardashian family; the source didn’t suggest whether Tyga would consider waiving the thousands of dollars he’d normally charge in order to spend time with his beloved for her birthday.
And then there’s the small matter of Tyga’s ex, Blac Chyna:

Blac Instagrammed out the above post just a few hours after Tyga shared a photo of himself emerging from the Caribbean sea, shirtless and looking bewildered. Blac’s post has gotten a lot of attention for the first sentence in particular–it looks as though she’s is trying to position herself between Tyga and Kylie Jenner yet again. Chyna defenders say it’s just common social media product placement, and point to Blac’s follow-up post, shared shortly after the above image, as proof:
What’s clear–for now, at least–is that Tyga is dropping #kingin hashtags all by his lonesome in St. Tropez, while Kylie Jenner plans to spend her birthday with all of her best girlfriends.
