Jimmy Page’s autobiography will be worth the $688 price tag!

Jimmy Page is in the argument for greatest rock guitarist of all time.  His work with the Yardirds and Led Zeppelin along with his solo oeuvre are a cornerstone of contemporary amped axe-age.  He is also one of the most eccentric men in the music world, as evidenced by his lavish photographic autobiography Jimmy Page, available September 27th.  If you “gotta whole lotta love” for Page you better have a whole lotta coin because a copy will set you back a whopping $688!

Now before you blow your Marshall amplifiers and start belly aching about how you could get a beat-up-barely-tunable Les Paul and start practicing Page riffs for that kind of dough let me tell you exactly why it comes with such a high price tag.  (Can someone say, “ultimate Jimmy Page collector’s item?”)

The publisher of the long-anticipated book is Genesis Publications. Via the information page for the book from Genesis you start to get an idea of exactly what type of beast you’ll be dealing with if you’re fortunate enough to own a copy.  Here is a list of some of the unique aspects of Jimmy Page.

  • – Limited edition of only 2,500 copies
  • – Each individually numbered book to be signed personally by Page
  • – Features over 650 photographic images
  • – Over 500 pages spanning Page’s entire career
  • – Hand bound in morrocco leather with laser-cut Perspex
  • – Fine-screen printed onto heavyweight art paper (280mm x 330mm)
  • – Translucent front and back boards featuring two of Page’s hand-picked favorite photographs
  • – Gilded page edges with decorative blocked gold leaf spine

I’m not a big time Page fan but after seeing all that I want one!  Here is what Page has to say about Genesis and the meticulous production of his book:

“I’ve really got a lot of time for the way Genesis produce their books, they’re really quality items. As someone who’s always been interested in having a library themselves, I appreciate fine bookbinding and their whole ethic of what they do and what they’re trying to do with a whole catalogue of books.”

And now for a few images of Jimmy Page that will probably be enough to just about knock any JP addict’s socks off:

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but from what I can tell the book will justify the price tag.  If all of this was just too much and you HAVE to get yourself a copy, Genesis is accepting pre-orders for Jimmy Page until the official publication date of September, 27th here.  And hey, if you get a copy can I borrow it man?
