Grammys exec thinks The Grammys were the real victim of the Chris Brown/Rihanna fight
Chris Brown performed twice at the Grammys this year and even won a Grammy after a two-year hiatus from the show, and he did a good job. Many of his fans welcomed him back, but others, like Miranda Lambert, were reticent about The Grammys’ decision to highlight Chris in light of the fact that he hit his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in the face three years ago.
Regardless of how the public feels about the situation, Rihanna has seemed to forgiven him: they’ve collaborated on a couple songs, and they may even be back together. Rihanna’s probably sick of everybody talking about that night.
But according to Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich, forget that Rihanna was hit in the face, according to him THE GRAMMYS were the real victim in this matter. He told ABC News, via HelloGiggles:
“We’re glad to have him back. I think people deserve a second chance, you know. If you’ll note, he has not been on the Grammys for the past few years and it may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.”
I’m sorry, say what? Two people were involved in a domestic violence incident that resulted in a lot of physical, emotional, psychological pain, and legal consequences, and The Grammys were the true victims?
Not to mention, as Hello Giggles writer Sasha Pasulka points out, this sends a disturbing message from The Grammys (and music industry) to people who are abused. Via Sasha @ hellogiggles:
We – the grown-up influencers in this country, the people with platforms and with educations and with power — are allowing a clear message to be sent to women: We will easily forgive a person who victimizes you. We are able to look beyond the fact that you were treated as less than human, that a bigger, stronger person decided to resolve a conflict with you through violence. We know it happened, but it’s just not that big of a deal to us.
