E! host Giuliana Rancic has been in the middle of a media storm after her comments about Zendaya, followed by speculation about her weight loss. She’s now addressing both of those issues and dishing some dirt about her past while promoting her new book, Going Off Script.
While appearing on The Today Show, Giuliana wanted to make it clear that she doesn’t have an eating disorder, and never has. “It was something that I didn’t ever feel the need to talk about,” she said. “I feel that weight is very personal. Whether you’re underweight, overweight, whatever, it’s your business. But it became distracting.”
People constantly tweet at her to “eat a burger,” but she claims that she does actually eat a lot of food, but the weight loss is the result of something else. “I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight due to the cancer medication that I’m on,” she said. “I was scared. I didn’t think this was great. I thought, ‘What the heck is happening to my body?’ …It’s very scary to have cancer, be on medication, then you start losing weight. I thought, ‘Oh my God, is my cancer back?'”
She also addressed her controversial comments about Zendaya’s hair. She says she made multiple references to hippie culture, which were edited out of the footage aired. “It’s something I want to be really clear about that happened,” she explained. “I made a reference to the hippie culture… and in the editing process, some of the gestures I made, some of the things I said were taken out for time. So I made peace signs, I said bohemian twice. Those were taken out for time, so when the joke aired, some people were offended by it.”
In her new memoir, Giuilana talks about being cheated on and dumped by actor Jerry O’Connell during their 2003-04 romance. “I was being two-timed for one of the lesser Spices?” she writes about his affair with Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell.
She says when she confronted Jerry about the indiscretion, he admitted it, but with little emotion. They briefly broke up, but got back together and were discussing marriage until he met wife Rebecca Romijn at a Maxim 100 Hottest Women party.
“Little did I know he was in the VIP area, talking up Rebecca [Romijn]. As a prelude to feeling up Rebecca.” She says a week later he went to Las Vegas and stopped talking to her. She went to his home when he got back to talk about their relationship, but he wouldn’t even let her in. She writes that he simply said, “‘Nope. Sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?’”
