Elin Nordegren suffered insomnia, weight loss, disillusionment; was blindsided by affairs
Elin Nordegren has remained completely silent since news of her husband Tiger Woods’ multiple infidelities hit the world November 2009.
Tiger has given a few interviews, made a disturbing Nike commercial, and got back into the game, but we could only speculate about what Elin was feeling and thinking. Did she already know her husband was cheating on her? Did she want to reconcile? Was Tiger paying her for her silence (mistress #1 Rachel Uchitel is widely believed to have been given “hush money”)?
Now, Elin is finally speaking out to People Magazine in an issue that hits stands Friday.
In it she reveals that she didn’t suspect even one of the 15+ affairs that happened over the past several years, saying “For the last 3½ years, when all this was going on, I was home a lot more with pregnancies, then the children and my school.” Elin is currently working towards a B.A. in Abnormal Human Behavior.
She also opens up about some of the turmoil she’s endured she she learned of her husband’s betrayal, saying that the emotional distress took a physical toll with bouts of insomnia and weight loss.
She also “felt stupid” when the avalanche of mistresses descended through the media:
“I felt stupid as more things were revealed — how could I not have known anything? The word ‘betrayal’ isn’t strong enough. I felt embarrassed for having been so deceived. I felt betrayed by many people around me. “I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children. I also feel stronger than I ever have. I have confidence in my beliefs, my decisions and myself.”
