Duck Dynasty’s Willie Robertson dishes out marriage advice

Willie and Korie Robertson

The Quack Pack was back Jack last night as the bearded Robertson men returned for season 3 of the popular A&E show Duck Dynasty. The double-shot was as hilarious and entertaining as ever as Willie did his own brand of roughing it followed by his best stab at shedding a few pounds for his high school reunion.

Willie spoke with Ask Men to promote the 3rd season by dishing out advice on how he’s kept the home fires burning with wife Korie Robertson. Considering he manages to keep Mrs. Boss Hog “happy happy happy” after 21 years, even when he can go days without bathing to ready for the opening of duck hunting season, I figured the Duck Commander might know a thing or two about wedded bliss.

“I would recommend getting married young. That way you don’t have all the baggage. All our memories are together. Everything we have, we built together.”

The man who keeps the business end of Duck Commander and Buck Commander rolling gave a little background on the sweet way he and Korie found each other.

“Korie and I met at a summer youth camp. I was in the fourth grade; she was in the third grade. We were on a hike and I asked her to hold hands. We went to different schools — I was in public and she was in private — but we’d see each other in the Christian youth group during the year.”

I don’t know if Phil or pioneer woman Miss Kay would’ve approved of all that hand holding business but you can’t keep an eye on them kids all the time. Willie doesn’t suggest letting doubt or over-thinking it derail your romance.

“People try to figure it out too much, to plan everything out. She and I were poor together. It’s taken years to get where we are now. “I hire a lot of young kids for the business. They look at Korie and I and figure a strong marriage happens right away. It takes a while to get there.”

While Willie wears the mantle of CEO, which means he has the rather challenging responsibility of managing Si and Jase, he knows he wouldn’t be where he’s at, or would the business, without his partner.

“I yield to her all the time. Women have a certain perception that a lot of men don’t. We’ll come out of a meeting and she’ll have heard something completely different than I did. In the early days, it was her encouragement that got me to start thinking about how to expand the business. Had I not been married to her, I never would have done anything that I’ve done today.”

That’s how Willie sees a successful marriage working and it’s hard to argue with the results. To further emphasize the proof, I found out about the Ask Men article via Korie’s Twitter feed when she wrote, “Such a sweet article from my man #lovehim.”

I get it Korie, I love me some Willie too – in a totally not shaving my beard and keeping my man card way of course.
